Review and control source updates
Use source controls to decide which retained values may update a record. Field choices, record pauses and source automation are separate decisions. Incoming evidence stays available even when it cannot change current values.
Choose a field’s source
- Open the record’s Sources and updates, then Review field sources.
- Expand a field group and compare current values, source cells, issuing source, revision and mapping version.
- Use the Choose source for … button for that group. In Authority, choose Keep current values, Choose a source or Allow future updates.
- Enter a reason and select Review change. Check the exact changes, then select Save choice.
Editing a property that follows a source explains that the manual value will stop source updates for the whole field group. A pin protects current values. Choosing a source adopts the reviewed values and follows that issuer and revision stream. Release keeps current values until an eligible future observation arrives. Quantity and unit, money and currency, and the ends of a date window are reviewed together. A stale review requires Review current sources; an older snapshot never becomes newer on release. For Project and tag membership, open the inline picker, then Project sources or Tag sources. Compare retained values, choose a source and review the change. Follow sources releases your manual selection. See Group records with tags.
Pause or resume a record
Open Sources and updates, then Review field sources. Select Pause source updates or Resume source updates. Enter a reason, select Review change, then confirm the reviewed action. Pausing keeps incoming evidence and allows staff edits. Resuming permits eligible future changes, preserves field choices and leaves waiting changes for review.
Review several changes
Open Needs decision in Inbox or the Project and choose the record family. Inspect current and incoming values and Source cells. Select matching changes from the same source stream, mapping and field group. Open the selected batch, choose whether to keep current values or use the source, and enter a reason. Select Preview all changes, check every change, then use the save button that names the number of decisions. A stale entry refuses the whole batch; review current values again.
Set source automation
Open Source automation for a source field group. Review its human agreement and client-visible corrections. Choose Automation level, enter a reason, select Review automation, then Save automation.
Compare only and Suggested retain proposed changes for review. Automatic levels require at least 98% human agreement spanning 14 days with no client-visible corrections. Automatic with review waits 15 minutes and checks the current evidence and authority again. Pins and pauses still win. This setting applies to matching records across that source stream, not just the record you opened. Mapping confirmation separately controls initial record creation, and Google Sheets layout automation separately controls worksheet interpretation.
Reverse the latest source decision
Open Source decision history, then select Review reversal on an eligible entry. Enter Reason for reverting, select Preview reversal, inspect the restored values and authority, then select Revert decision. The original remains in history. A later field change prevents reversing over it; review the current source instead.
What to know
You need the underlying record’s write permission to save these decisions. Scout reads comparisons and history and directs you to the review screen; it cannot approve source choices, automation or reversals for you.
