Attach files to a Scout chat

Attach a file when you want Scout to read it with your question, such as a supplier price list, a scanned invoice or a photo of a plant label. Attaching a file does not change your records; to bring data into Biosphere, use Inbox.

Attach files

  1. Select Attach files below the message box and choose up to five files. You can also drag files onto the message box or paste an image into it.
  2. Wait until each file shows Ready. Biosphere checks every file before Scout can read it; meanwhile the file shows Preparing, Uploading or Checking.
  3. Add a message if you like, then send. A message can be files alone.

To take a file off before sending, select the X beside it. If a file fails, the reason shows beside it; select the retry icon to try again, or remove it.

Supported files

FileWhat Biosphere accepts
PDF1 to 20 pages, not password-protected
PNG, JPEG or WebP imageUp to 4 million pixels
CSV, TSV or XLSX tableUp to 1 MiB; CSV and TSV must be UTF-8 text

Every file must have content, be no larger than 5 MiB and match its file extension. One message can carry up to five files and 20 MiB in total. Encrypted files cannot be read.

A table with a problem that needs fixing is refused with the problem named. A table with saved formula values shows “Contains saved formula values or other table warnings.” If a table is too large to prepare, split it into smaller files.

Sent files are listed under your message. Select a file name to download the original.

What to know

  • Attached files stay in the conversation. If Scout runs out of time, send a follow-up in the same conversation; you do not need to upload the files again.
  • An unsent draft is kept in this browser if you reload the page. Files that were ready stay attached; a file that was still uploading asks you to retry it or choose it again. Signing out removes the draft.
  • For every limit across Biosphere, see Limits and file types.
