Split freight and duty across goods

Freight and duty purchase lines become part of the cost of the goods on that purchase order. By default, Biosphere spreads each charge by the goods’ line value. Set an explicit split when that does not reflect what the charge covered.

Add a freight or duty line

In a draft purchase order, add a line with Fulfillment set to non-stock. Enter its description, quantity, non-stock unit and unit cost, and choose freight or duty under Freight or duty. Save the line. A charge is not a stock item and needs no inventory destination.

Change the split

  1. Open the order’s Freight and duty section.
  2. Select Change split beside the charge.
  3. Enter the share for every goods line, including zero where appropriate. The shares must add up exactly to the charge in its original currency.
  4. Enter a Reason, then select Save split.

Each freight or duty line has its own split. To return to automatic distribution, open its saved split, enter a reason and select Restore split by value. If another decision superseded the split, reopen the current values before saving.

What to know

  • A split changes costs and margins that use these goods immediately. It does not change the purchase total, move stock or send a supplier payment.
  • Costs remain provisional purchase order prices until supplier bills are available. Corrections retain the earlier decision in history.
  • Foreign purchases also need a saved purchase-date exchange rate for complete USD inventory and margin reporting.
