Inventory
Make stock with a recipe
A recipe turns input stock into a different inventory item at one location, such as sealing six Jade coasters into one sealed six-pack. Each run uses the inputs and adds the output together, so stock is never half moved.
Create a recipe
- Open Inventory, then select Recipes.
- Select New recipe.
- Under Makes, choose the output inventory item and enter how much one batch makes, such as 1 pack of Sealed jade six-pack. The name fills in from the output.
- Under Inputs, choose each input inventory item and how much one batch uses, such as 6 each of Jade coaster. Select Add input for more inputs.
- Change the Name if you like, such as Seal a jade six-pack.
- Select Create recipe.
Quantities are per batch, in each item’s own base unit.
Run a recipe
- Open the recipe from Recipes.
- Select Run recipe.
- Choose the Location. A business with one location has it chosen already.
- Enter the Batches, such as 4.
- Read the preview. It says how many batches fit, such as “Up to 4 batches here · Limited by Jade coaster”, and lists each item’s change, what is available, what will be on hand after, and its status.
- Enter a Reason of at least three characters, such as “Packing for the Alder Retail order”.
- Select Run recipe.
The run appears under Runs and in the Activity of the recipe and of each inventory item it moved.
Fix a run that can’t start
The dialog says what is missing, in the order to fix it:
- No count here on an input: the input has never been counted at this location. Select Record count beside it, post the count, and the preview updates.
- Short on an input: there isn’t enough available. Lower the batches to the number the preview allows, or count or receive more stock first. Stock committed to sales orders isn’t available to recipes.
- The output has no count here: tick Start it at zero and enter an Opening reason if the shelf is empty. If it isn’t empty, record a count of the output on Levels first.
Edit a recipe
- Open the recipe and select Edit.
- Change the name, output or inputs, then select Save recipe.
Changes apply to new runs. Past runs keep the recipe as it was when they ran; each run shows the revision it used.
What to know
- A recipe has one output and 1 to 25 inputs. Each input is a different inventory item, and none can be the output.
- Recipe names are unique in your business, ignoring capital letters, and can be up to 300 characters.
- Recipes only go one way. To unpack sealed packs into singles, create a second recipe that uses the pack and makes singles.
- Sales never run a recipe automatically. Selling singles doesn’t use sealed packs.
- Batches and quantities can have up to nine decimal places.
- A run can’t be undone or corrected. To reverse one, run the opposite recipe or adjust the stock with a reason.
- Recipes can’t be deleted. The recipe shows its 10 latest runs; the full history is in its Activity.
